英語教育講義(5)

  In today's class, I learned how to study effectively. What I thought is that we have to improve four skills, reading, speaking, writing and listening unbiasedly. If we only concentrate on studying reading skill, it is true that the ability to read English sentences will improve, but three of skills aren' t so enough that it may interfere with exams like the English Proficiency Test or Gtec because these test doesn't only  measure reading ability but also writing or listening. In small group, we talked about output and input. I think that this two things are essential to us to learn English.

 In today's class, I learned about internal factors. I took speech recognition test and three out of six were correct. While solving this problem, I wondered which sound correspond to number. I found that oral communication don't have relation to intelligence. I think that there are many people who are good at oral communication although they are not smart. In terms of learning second language, I don't think that it's too late to start learning from any age, but there may be individual differences in learning speed.

 In today's group, we talked about second language. There are some people which majors in Germany or French in my group. The trouble is that it's hard to memorize words because masculine noun and female noun are distinguished. the man that majors in Chinese told us that it was hard to pronounce it despite the fact that Japanese was similar to it in terms of using Kanji. German is also similar to English. For example, In English, "Name" is pronounced ”ネーム”, but in German, it is pronounced "ナーメ”.  Thus similarity and difference are shown those languages. I was able to understand the anguish of learning languages.

 In second semester, we learned motivation. While I took this lecture, I started thinking about motivation. Now, I work at two places, WEST and cram school. I have two motivations to work. Why I work at two places is to earn a lot of money and study how to teach students English. This two reasons are my motivations. Motivating don't happen unless an incident happens. I think that the motivation of studying a subject means that learner feels attractive to it.  To keep motivations of studying, we should set a goal. For example, to go on university, we learn how to solve problems of subjects to pass entrance exam. If we don't set it, we may not do something to go on.
